Spectrum Scholar Travel Grants

Spectrum Scholar Travel Grants introduce ALA Spectrum Scholars to public librarianship and provide networking opportunities within the profession. Selection is based on the quality and appropriateness of submitted essays. Each grant includes complimentary registration, one year of ALA and PLA membership, and a $1,000 stipend for travel and housing. Selected recipients will be invited to the PLA President's Reception. They will also be asked to submit a blog post for possible publication on Public Libraries Online and in the ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) blog, Intersections.

The application window for this scholarship opportunity is now closed. Grant recipients will be announced/notified on or before February 18, 2022.


PLA 2022 Scholarships

Congratulations to our recipients!

To encourage equity, diversity, and inclusion in the library profession, PLA sponsored thirty (30) general conference scholarship distributed among three categories: Early-career Library Staff Scholarships, Non-Salaried or Unemployed Library Staff Scholarships, and Library School Student Scholarships. Each scholarship includes complimentary registration, one year of ALA and PLA membership, and a $500 stipend for travel and housing. These scholarships provide financial assistance for public library workers and students to be able to attend the PLA 2022 Conference in person in Portland, March 23–25.

Donate to Support PLA 2022 Scholarships & Grants

All donations made to PLA from November 2021 through February 2022 will be applied to the PLA 2022 Conference scholarships and grants.
