Noé Álvarez, author of Spirit Run: A 6,000-Mile Marathon Through North America's Stolen Land, was born to Mexican immigrant parents and raised working-class in Yakima, WA. He lives in Boston, where, until recently, he worked as a security officer at one of the nation's oldest libraries, the Boston Athenæum.

Brittany K. Barnett, author of A KNOCK AT MIDNIGHT: A Story of Hope, Justice, and Freedom, is an award-winning attorney and entrepreneur focused on social impact investing. She is dedicated to transforming the criminal justice system and has won freedom for numerous people serving life sentences for federal drug offenses—including seven clients who received executive clemency from President Barack Obama. Brittany is founder of a series of social enterprises, including XVI Capital Partners, Milena Reign LLC, the Buried Alive Project, and Girls Embracing Mothers. She has earned many honors, including being named one of America's most Outstanding Young Lawyers by the American Bar Association.

Based in Los Angeles, Walter Thompson-Hernández began his career with The New York Times in 2018 and is a fellow with Surfacing, the paper’s multi-media reporting team covering subcultures, marginalized, and off-beat communities around the world. He is the author of The Compton Cowboys: The New Generation of Cowboys in America's Urban Heartland. He has written for NPR, Fusion, The Guardian, Remezcla, and other media outlets, and has reported from six continents and throughout the United States. He attended the University of Portland and received his Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Stanford University.
