Panel at POLIN Museum Prior to the Conference

At 6:00 pm on Saturday evening, August 4, 2018, just prior to the Conference, come to the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews for the following event.

Panel Discussion: What Do We Really Think?

Stereotypes in the Polish-Jewish Landscape

Admissiion is free to attend the panel. (The museum is a 30-minute walk from the Hilton Hotel. The museum does not have mechanical doors and all visitors are required to step through airport-style security.)

This panel addresses the challenges and opportunities experienced by those active in preserving Jewish memory in Poland. As recent developments demonstrate, long-held stereotypes and historical animosities, compounded by profound national and personal trauma and loss, make the effort to create dialogue and mutual understanding between Jews and non-Jewish Poles both essential and potentially explosive. For contemporary Poles, for the descendants of Polish Jews, and for those from other communities who contribute from a variety of motives and backgrounds, the long, tragic history of the Jewish community in Poland shapes perceptions and attitudes.

This panel brings together different voices and viewpoints in an effort to share insights and provoke dialogue as a necessary precondition to building bridges and changing stereotypes.
