(BEYA 2501) Deloitte Insights University - Diversity and Inclusion: Old Rules vs. New Rules and Global Human Capital Projections, Trends and Insights for 2023
Learning Objective: To expand our awareness and understanding of the motivations and principles driving the new emerging voices in the global workforce and their viewpoints and expectations for diversity and inclusion in the workplace. According to the 2017 Global Human Capital Trends report published by Deloitte University Press: Diversity and inclusion now impact brand, corporate purpose, and performance. Not only is the public increasingly aware of the issue (witness the scrutiny of gender and racial diversity in the technology industry), but employees are also expressing more robust views on diversity and inclusion. Millennials, for example, see inclusion as a mandatory part of corporate culture, defining how the company listens to them at work.2 Shareholders, customers, and suppliers are all taking a closer look at this issue. As awareness around diversity and inclusion grows, diversity and inclusion have become more critical for talent acquisition and a company’s employment brand. Many organizations operate in an environment of high transparency, which employees demand. For younger workers, inclusion is not just about assembling diverse teams but also connecting team members so that everyone is heard and respected.3 Companies should align their approach with the expectations of Millennials and others, or they will likely lose talent. We have reached the fifth anniversary of the Global Human Capital Trends report. In five short years, the world has experienced a paradigm shift in personal and professional motivators and incentives in the global marketplace. Millennials power the workforce close to Baby boomers, Generation X and Generation Z as they assume leadership roles in human resources. They are taking the title of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and effectively elevating the value and monetization opportunities of strategic diversity initiatives and organizational practices in the global market. How are COVID and other international emergencies impacting the goals and aspirations of our next-generation global workforce? For the first time in history, the world has five generations actively working in the worldwide market. Join us as we learn the new trends and voices in diversity and inclusion. What has changed, and where do we see the future of work in a digital economy? After this seminar, the participants will be able to: a. Understand the evolution of diversity and inclusion to current-day voices and new trends forming in workforce dynamics. b. Comprehend the strategic advantages of workforce diversity transitioning from politically correct initiatives into effective communication and collaboration channels. c. Know how to convert behaviors and cultural practices that create diversity challenges into opportunities for cohesive collaboration and sustainable “win-win” workplace scenarios.

(BEYA 2475) PWI & HBCU Research Partnerships - Creating Meaningful Relationships
In order for the United States to maintain its global leadership position, we must preserve a vibrant, future-oriented research ecosystem along with a well-developed STEM workforce pipeline. This task will require a broad, diverse pool of highly capable, talented researchers and employees in all areas—especially in STEM. To achieve this goal, broadening the participation of students from underrepresented groups in national research and STEM is necessary, which will require key partnerships. Mutually beneficial and authentic partnerships between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly White institutions (PWIs) provides a unique opportunity to implement this goal. Panelists will shed light on how PWIs can benefit from recognizing and leveraging the strengths of HBCUs. These benefits include $14.8 billion in annual economic impact from HBCUs as well as graduating in STEM at least 25% undergraduates, including 46% of women and 30% of black doctoral degrees from these institutions. Panelists will also discuss key points that make these aspirations possible while providing examples and exploring features that are essential for their success. This session will include panelists from higher education and governmental entities with experience in developing successful research partnerships between PWIs and HBCUs. They will discuss personal and career examples of successful collaborations, factors that are essential to consider in developing these relationships, and funding opportunities for a 21st century diverse workforce. Invent and Simplify: A deeper look into one of Amazon’s Leadership Principles Presented by Amazon Global Robotics
At Amazon, invention and innovation are two sides of the same coin. Both require breaking through the constraints of convention and apparent technical limitations. Invention requires you to imagine a future where things are markedly different, and then to imagine what it would take to get there. Innovation takes an existing process or product and blows apart the constraints that make it behave the way it does today and imagine what it could become. This seminar is an intimate conversation with some of Amazon's top Senior Principal Technologists to discuss their role as individual contributors and how they have used their expertise to invent and innovate to optimize the output for their respective organizations. Engineering Challenges and Opportunities Infrastructure, Simulation, Technology, and HCM
The US government has an infrastructure crisis. This crisis affects the military and the government at large. America owns or maintains over 400 bases in 80 countries. These bases face risks from flooding, hurricanes, wildfires, outdated water systems, patchwork of electrical grids, aged airfields, and environmental pollution. These challenges are exacerbated by climate change, budgetary constraints, and the lack of research on technologies or processes that can help mitigate these risks. The United States is the world leader in simulation, artificial intelligence, and 3D. One of the cornerstones of this primacy is the ability of simulation centers of excellence to work public - private partnerships. Learn about the groundbreaking work that is taking place across the country in simulation, artificial intelligence, and Human Capital Management in Florida and Texas. Enabling objectives:

(BEYA 2947) Cybersecurity: Using Zero Trust to Secure the Hybrid Workforce
As we transition from a remote to a fully mobile, hybrid workforce, organizations need to re-evaluate their approach to securing their people and data. Perimeter defense is no longer sufficient for achieving cyber resiliency and securing our information enterprise that spans geographic borders, interfaces and external partners, and support to millions of authorized users. The "never trust, always verify" mindset requires organizations to take responsibility for securing devices, applications, assets, and services. For an effective Zero Trust security model implementation, organization should answer the following: · What do you trust: verify explicitly, authenticate, and authorize (enterprise network) · Who do you trust: least privilege access (applications, devices, services, users)

(BEYA 2450) Let’s Talk Open Source: The Future of Global Platform Development is Here
Learning Objective: Develop an understanding of how and why technology and innovation are rooted in the global open-source community. The critical success factors used to measure market activity are rooted in two fundamental measures (speed and sustainability); how fast the market can be served with sustained scaling is a constantly evolving practice as more open-source projects launch physical and digital solutions. For instance, a smartwatch development kit can be purchased for as little as $25; this includes open-source operating systems, open-source development frameworks, supply chains, and open-source software. For example, Mastodon is a federated social platform designed to connect online communities without an intermediary platform. The platform is a “distributed” architecture that disrupts traditional social media and empowers each organization to have its version of popular social platforms with total access to all features, functionality, and,t importantly, the data generated from social activities on a distributed platform. This is a significant shift in technological advancements brought on by Industry 4.0 and a globally connected community of independent professionals, novices, and corporate, non-profit, and government resources. The future of open source is yet to be determined; what can be stated with confidence is that open source is the accelerant in a globally connected community and impacts all aspects of research collaborations, development costs, talent acquisition sources, micro-patents, and micro-licensing of intellectual property. At the end of this session, participants will be able to: a. Understand how open source is leveraged by large and small organizations to reduce cost and increase the speed of delivery of goods, product,s and services. b. Examine the type of open source development practices changing how talent acquisition is sourced, compensated, and reta, ined. c. Explore the advantages of using open source to reduce costs and leverage community support. d. Examine the limitations of internal development vs. open source development.

(BEYA 2705) Becoming Everything You Are In A Post Pandemic Environment Presented by The Boeing Company
In today’s environment, we are facing a fundamental technological change that we haven’t seen in decades. The coronavirus pandemic has changed how we live, learn, connect, and work. Forbes states that due to the Covid-19 pandemic “2020 became 2025 on the digital acceleration timeline”. The digital revolution is here as seen by the accelerated rise in remote working, distance learning, virtual communication, and online experiences. This digital transformation has made cloud computing, data & analytics, mobility, and digital experience key areas of focus for every industry. Ted Colbert, 2022 Black Engineer of the Year, spearheaded the creation of the Digital Twin Initiative that launched Boeing on the path to Web 3.0. But along with the technology plan, Boeing needs the workforce that can rise to this challenge. Today’s Post-Covid workforce has record breaking pay for digital occupations while simultaneously experiencing a tech industry downturn resulting in widespread layoffs. Preparing, recruiting, retaining, and optimizing that workforce has its own challenges. Join Boeing leaders as they discuss being everything you are in today’s environment.

(BEYA 2706) Am I Invisible? Overcoming the Challenges of Being Seen and Heard Presented by Raytheon Technologies
Have you ever felt like your seat at the table was two feet lower than everyone else’s or every time you showed up virtually or in person, you felt invisible? Or maybe you’ve been subjected to the hypervisibility that comes along with being the only minority in the room and dealt with how to “blend in” affecting your ability to be authentically seen and heard. Either way, the challenges associated with visibility for minority populations are real and are being experienced everyday. Can we really overcome the challenges of being seen and heard in today’s culture? In this forum, we will hear from individuals who will share their experiences and perspectives about being seen and heard, despite the microaggressions, marginalization and unconscious biases that exist in the workplace. Their experiences will shed light and give voice to those who have been silently waiting to show up in ways that pierce the darkness of invisibility and inspire all of us to open our eyes and ears to those who have been challenged with being seen and heard. Just know that you are visible, even if others refuse to remove their blindfolds. Speaker(s): Charles Everett Dawn Charleston Amanda Goodson Robert Griffiths Ceah Justice

(BEYA 2306) The Corporate Ladder: What Blocks Success
Learning Objective: Increase professional and leadership confidence and competence We all expect to be judged on our merits at work and recognized for our accomplishments, unique talents, insights, and efforts. But does that happen? Recent research shows minorities fill a small percentage of executive-level jobs and corporate board seats. Experts believe that a significant cause is the lack of confidence. “Confidence is a learned skill....what you have to be willing to do is dare to put yourself out there. You’ve got to dare to take some risks.” Learn from the experts what risks to take and how taking them can lead to a triumphant rise up the corporate ladder. After this seminar, the participants will be able to: a. Recognize the barriers that prevent them from becoming successful. b. Examine the benefits of developing a mentorship role for support. c. Develop techniques for gaining confidence. d. Independently explore strategies for overcoming the barriers that block their rise in the corporate world.

(BEYA 2402) A True Commitment to Sustainability: The Emergence of the Green Circular Economy
Learning Objective: To understand the measurable value of ‘circular’ innovations and advocate for adopting circular sustainability in manufacturing, product development, and the global supply chain ecosystem. No matter the type or size of the idea or organization, from startups to enterprises, collective sharing is required to accelerate innovation and answer the global resource challenges facing our health and environmental equities. How to Mobilize Your PhDs to Drive Diversity and Grow the Business Presented by Booz Allen Hamilton
There are a lot of personal and professional reasons why folks strive for a Ph.D. but a fair generalization is the aim to change the world for the better. Other fair generalizations are that many PhDs leave academia because they don’t find the institution conducive to tangibly change the world and that there is very little guidance on how one can utilize their Ph.D. skill sets in jobs outside of academia. At Booz Allen Hamilton, we have made it a mission to bring together our over 1000 doctorate employees (and our many other engineers willing to roll up their sleeves) to collectively help with the firm’s bigger VoLT Strategy by (1) generating R&D that will advance client products and services, (2) building strategic partnerships with high-level government officials looking to solve their “Ph.D.-level hard” problems, and (3) ensuring that diversity remains paramount as business imperative. We look forward to talking about our experience with you and really look forward to talking with the audience about ways we all can work together in changing the world for the better. After this panel, the participants will be able to:

(BEYA 2322) Men2Men: My Brother's Keeper
Learning Objective: Facilitate candid dialogue by men about the responsibilities they face in the workplace and the changing roles they encounter today. The BEYA Men2Men session offers supportive round-table conversations about the day-to-day experiences that impact male professionals in the workplace and beyond. The round-table discussions will provide participants with a humanized platform to network and share positive practices for overcoming these challenges. The discussions will give men a secure environment to share their journey, explore self-discovery and recovery, create space within their chaotic life, and let down their guard to accept support in their struggles. After this seminar, the participants will be able to: 1. Understand how culture influences workplace encounters and perceptions. 2. Learn successful strategies employed by their peers. 3. Understand the importance of sharing and celebrating life lessons to overcome challenges. 4. Identify practical tips for responsibly demonstrating their value to their families and organizations. 5. Create a network of like-minded men who support breaking down the walls men build.
