Integrating Patient Preferences in Patient-Centered Clinical Decision Support: Where Are We Now and Where Do We Go Next?
Patient-centered clinical decision support (PC CDS) is CDS designed to support individual patients in health-related decisions. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports a range of projects to accelerate the effective use of PC CDS in practice. Understanding patient preferences as part of decision-making is a critical aspect of patient-centered care and requires a better understanding of the preferences relevant to PC CDS and the steps involved for implementation. Featuring findings from AHRQ’s Clinical Decision Support Innovation Collaborative (CDSiC), this panel discusses the importance of considering patient perspective in clinical decision making, and describes efforts to define patient preferences, capture the current state of standards for patient preference data, and highlight examples of its use in the real-world.
