Advancing Healthcare through Equity-Focused Informatics and Data Practices
The proliferation of large multidimensional datasets has underpinned many advances in biomedical informatics research, especially as it concerns computational models. Although increased access to data and computational models are meant to improve health and healthcare outcomes for all, merely increasing the size of datasets and the number of parameters in models will not address health inequities, especially for marginalized and disinvested communities. This panel will inform the ongoing scholarly debate about data ownership and use, contextual awareness in design considerations, and the value of broad stakeholder involvement in informatics.
