Digital Health is poised to not only make it possible to rapidly detect, prevent, and manage many diseases, but also ensure equitable healthcare access. Healthcare providers have demonstrated interest in integrating digital health data with existing workflows for longitudinal and remote monitoring of patients. However, technological progress and effective implementation have been impeded because reference standards, transparency, and open resources are emerging more slowly. In this workshop, we will introduce and discuss digital health technologies and data and we will describe two open-source initiatives that are addressing existing informatics challenges directly, including the Digital Biomarker Discovery Pipeline (DBDP) and Open mHealth. We will describe the utility of these platforms for easily accessing, extracting, storing, and analyzing digital health data and how this can enable the incorporation of digital health data from a diverse set of personal wearable devices into existing clinical workflows. We will present four case studies as motivation for the subsequent hands-on training integrating digital health data into clinical workflows. Finally, we will discuss persistent and emerging issues in the space of digital health data and conclude by sharing our vision and future direction for digital health informatics.
