S45: Panel - Future Directions for Patient-Centered Clinical Decision Support: What Have We Learned and Where Do We Go Next?
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has been supporting a range of projects focused on advancing CDS, in particular patient-centered CDS (PC CDS), to accelerate the movement of patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) into practice. PC CDS integrates evidence generated from PCOR, patient-generated health data (PGHD), and/or patient preferences to support patient, caregiver, and care team decision-making. This panel will feature findings and lessons learned from an evaluation of AHRQ’s PCOR CDS Initiative and from two AHRQ-funded pilots implementing PC CDS in a health system. The multi-year mixed methods evaluation generated findings focused on developing and implementing standards-based, shareable CDS. The two pilots identified key gaps in current interoperability standards for the use of PGHD in PC CDS. Panelists will outline future directions for advancing PC CDS based on their findings, providing an agenda for the next decade of CDS research.
