Tours


We're delighted to offer 4 tours on Tuesday, November 7, 2018, so you can explore Pittsburgh's museums, culture, and technology communities as well as the surrounding area.

Advanced Registration Required!

  • Tours are optional and must be purchased in addition to the conference registration. 
  • Space is limited so make sure you make your selection early.

 

Tour #1 - A Day in the Country

 

Spend a day in the countryside with MCN! Did you know that just outside Pittsburgh’s city limits are rolling hills, vast forests and nature galore? This tour will take you about an hour east of the city into the region's picturesque landscape. The first stop will be The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, where staff will highlight the museum's amazing collection and recent expansion. Then it’s off to Fallingwater for a tasty lunch and a staff-led tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s signature design.



Start time: 9AM from Omni William Penn Hotel

End time: 5PM back at Omni William Penn Hotel

Transportation: Provided by MCN

Capacity: Limited to 25 participants

Tour #2 - MuseTech Extravaganza


Go behind scenes of Pittsburgh’s #MuseTech and private sector technology hotspots! Start the day off at Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History, where technologists and curators will highlight projects that utilize progressive & emerging technologies such as physical computing, artificial intelligence, utilitarian design and linked open data. Enjoy lunch at Cafe Carnegie, before heading over to Google Pittsburgh, one of the most interesting work environments in the city. Google will be opening its doors to MCN for a rare peek inside.


Start time: 9AM from Omni William Penn Hotel

End time: 4PM back at Omni William Penn Hotel

Tour #3 - Carnegie Mellon University Creative Spaces


Tour the creative spaces and media labs at Carnegie Mellon university. 

Join the team at the Studio for Creative Inquiry for coffee/snacks, a tour and discussion.
  The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University is a laboratory for atypical, anti-disciplinary, and inter-institutional research at the intersections of arts, science, technology and culture. The Community Robotics, Education and Technology Empowerment Lab (CREATE Lab) explores socially meaningful innovation and deployment of robotic technologies. The tour wil finish off by visiting the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) for a tour. The ETC is the premiere professional graduate program for interactive entertainment as it's applied across a variety of fields.
