General Session Keynotes

Opening General Session

Keynote Speaker:
JIM COLLINS
Great by Choice: Uncertainty, Chaos, and Luck—Why Some Thrive Despite Them All

Jim Collins has authored or co-authored six books that have sold in total more than ten million copies worldwide. They include: the classic Built to Last, a fixture on the Business Week best-seller list for more than six years; the international best-seller Good to Great, translated into 35 languages; and How the Mighty Fall, a New York Times best-seller that examines how great companies can self-destruct.

His most recent book is Great by Choice: Uncertainty, Chaos, and Luck—Why Some Thrive Despite Them All, co-authored with Morten Hansen. Based on nine years of research, it answers the question, “Why do some companies thrive in uncertainty, even chaos, and others do not?” Great by Choice distinguishes itself from Jim’s prior books by focusing not just on performance but on the type of unstable environments faced by leaders today.

Prior to the Opening General Session keynote address, learn more about AHCA/NCAL’s Quality Initiative, and 2012 Strategic Plan. AHCA/NCAL leadership will also discuss its advocacy agenda and goals for this election year.

Closing General Session

Keynote Speaker:
COMMANDER MARK KELLY
Commander of the Space Shuttle Endeavour’s Final Mission

Mark Kelly is an American astronaut, retired U.S. Navy Captain, best-selling author, prostate cancer survivor, and an experienced naval aviator who flew combat missions during the Gulf War. He flew his first of four missions in 2001 aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour, the same space shuttle that he commanded on its final flight in May 2011. He has also commanded Space Shuttle Discovery and is one of only two individuals who have visited the International Space Station on four different occasions.

Already a celebrated American, Kelly became the center of international attention after the January 2011 assassination attempt on his wife, former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In their best-selling memoir, Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope, the couple shares their story of resilience with the world. A sought-after keynote speaker, Mark Kelly is an American hero who inspires others to be their best while remaining true to their core values. He exemplifies leadership, the importance of teamwork, and courage under pressure.

The AHCA/NCAL Awards Celebration will follow the Closing General Session keynote address. Outstanding long term care providers will be recognized at that time.
