Collaboratively design an implementation plan for school librarian practice around the new National School Library Standards. While focusing on the four domains of professional competency identified in the AASL Standards Framework, participants will develop a deep understanding of the shared foundations and their key commitments. Create strategies for using the standards in your everyday practice as you engage with stakeholders and empower learners, and leave the workshop with immediately usable action steps.

How do the new National School Library Standards transform student learning? While learner, school librarian, and school library standards are intentionally interdependent, we will concentrate on the learner standards by collaboratively engaging with the new structure, unpacking the shared foundations, and relating your learning to current practice and new opportunities. You will leave this session with a clear understanding of how to navigate the standards and how to begin connecting the elements of the AASL Standards Framework to powerful student learning.

ESLS Research Symposium

The Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of AASL presents its fifth research symposium at AASL national conference. As educators, scholars, and researchers, ESLS members create new knowledge about the school library field, impart that knowledge to the profession's newest members, and share that knowledge with practitioners in the field. This year’s symposium will focus on the new AASL National School Library Standards. A program description, learning objectives, and outcomes will be posted as information is finalized this spring.
