Dinner with a Local Librarian

Begin the conference exploring Phoenix in a local school librarian's favorite restaurant, and enjoy networking with fellow attendees and authors in a relaxed social setting. (Sign-up on site. This event is Dutch treat.)
Thursday, November 9 | 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
This event is especially designed for new AASL members and first-time attendees who want to learn how to get the most out of the AASL National Conference. This brown-bag event will have tables set for informal conversations between conference veterans and those new to AASL National Conference. AASL member leaders and other experienced conference-goers share helpful tips and strategies for navigating the event, making it a memorable and worthwhile experience.
From Stories to Action: Inspiring Heroes for Our Own World
Thursday, November 9 | 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.Come to this interactive workshop to learn how to transfigure the pop culture passions of young people into real-world civic engagement. This special event is presented by The Harry Potter Alliance, a global non-profit that turns fans into heroes by drawing connections between popular media and real-world social issues.
Batman + Bill
Thursday, November 9 | 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Join Marc Tyler Nobleman, self-described “pop culture archaeologist,” for a special screening of Batman + Bill a Hulu Original Documentary. This film shares how Bill Finger, the originator of the Batman character, lived and died without recognition for his role in creating one of the most well-known superheroes of all time. Nobleman will introduce the film and lead a short discussion following the screening.
Thursday, November 9 | 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.Join fellow Independent School Librarians for an evening of networking during an informal reception. Light hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served.
An additional registration fee of $45 is required in advance of the event.
Thursday, November 9 | 9:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.Engage with the new standards and each other in this high-energy, participatory event. We’ll explore the shared foundations in AASL’s new National School Library Standards using a World Café conversation protocol, as we ask big questions, develop ideas for implementation, and share collective discoveries.
Scottsdale on a Saturday Evening
Saturday, November 11 | 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.If you are staying over Saturday evening, consider joining fellow school librarians for another Dutch treat dinner with a local librarian (and possibly even an author!) in Scottsdale. Cost is for the shuttle ride to and from the Phoenix Convention Center. Not interested in attending a dinner? Limited seats are available for people who would just like to visit Scottsdale for the evening. (On-site registration will be accepted pending availability.)
An additional registration fee of $10 is required in advance of the event.
