AASL is now accepting proposals for the best practice showcase to be held during the AASL 18th National Conference & Exhibition. The IdeaLab is a best practice event showcasing collaborative projects leading the way in school library program development. Attendees will browse learning stations, consisting of video displays with large screen monitors, at their own pace. Presenters are required to prepare an electronic presentation with eye-appealing visuals along with a short presentation for roaming attendees. A take-away in the form of a handout is encouraged for all presenters. Presenters are encouraged to make a QR code or short link available to attendees. Participants in the IdeaLab are encouraged to include their audience in discussion and short presentations. The submission deadline is Friday, March 24, 2017.

Presenters will be supplied with a large screen monitor, table, and chair. Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter. Digital presentations will be hosted on the AASL National Conference website following the IdeaLab.  

The IdeaLab will accept proposals on the following topics:

  • Blended learning

  • Flipped classroom

  • Interconnected learning - #global education

  • Media literacy

  • National standards

  • Next generation science standards

  • One-to-one


  • Technology Integration

IdeaLab proposals will be chosen based on the following criteria: 

  • Appeal to a broad audience across curriculum

  • Buy-in by school administrators

  • Creative implementation in school libraries

  • Connection to the conference them: Beyond the Horizon

  • Display of best practices in librarianship and education

  • Implementation of AASL’s Standards for 21st-Century Learners and program guidelines

  • Program connections to school libraries

  • Unique presentation of issues
